Here is the sequence of pulling the engine from the car on that beautiful day that came to be known as Engine Day. The helper is our neighbor Don. As always, click on the thumbnail for the larger version of the picture.

These three are the early prep work, with Jeff bringing out the hoist, reading the shop manual, staring at the car and thinking:

Now the engine was chained to the hoist. At this point Don came over to help, beer in hand. Jeff was removing all the bolts holding the engine in:

Next the hoisting began. There was a snag - the speedometer cable and oil pressure line were wrapped around the engine and had to be removed. After that was cleared up, the engine could be easily lifted. Not pictured - because I was involved - is me holding the hoist still once the engine was clear, while Jeff & Don pushed the car back and away from the hoist.

At this point the engine was completely free of the car and needed to be placed on the engine stand. The first attempt to do so was stopped because the clutch was in the way. They lowered the engine onto that pallet, removed the clutch and then got it onto the engine stand.

Here it is on the stand, waiting to be rebuilt:

Isn't it purty?   It glows in the sun!   It seems really small for being the whole engine of a car

A picture of the empty engine compartment. You can see the bell housing. Next to go will be the transmission.
